YUMI SHAWL SET (Two pieces)
The set comes as two scarfs, one smaller, one bigger. I've always wanted something like this, two pieces in the same fabric and the same feel, so I could wrap the smaller one around my head or neck, and reach for the bigger one as a shawl. I'd never come across anything like that, so we made it ourselves. I love that this set gives you endless ways to style it, wear them together, apart, layered, or even share the set with someone you love.
I fell in love with the fabrics before I even knew what I would make from it. A unique artisanal textile, woven from cotton and beechwood fiber, the same blend as the Yumi Poncho, with a raw, textured feel that no machine-made fabric quite has.
Because of its loose weave structure, it's woven as a double layer first, to keep it from tearing, then separated by hand, which gives the finished shawl its raw, slightly uneven, natural character. It's washed using a traditional Şile Bezi process with vegan softeners, so it arrives already soft and a little lived-in.
I love how many ways this set can be worn: together, apart, layered, as a headscarf, around the neck or shoulders, or even shared with someone you love.
PRODUCTION
Each piece from the YUMI Shawl Set is handwoven and handmade by women in Turkey in small quantities, following the traditional Şile Bezi weaving and washing process.
Because of the handwoven, double-layer separation process, you may notice small irregularities in the weave from piece to piece. These are not flaws, they're proof of the hands that made it. Like our other fabrics, it will only soften further with time and wear, becoming more yours with every use.

OUR PACKAGING
Just like the pieces inside it, we wanted our packaging to stay close to nature too.
It's made from raw corrugated cardboard, recycled paper and grass paper. No coating, no foil, nothing glossy standing between the material and your hands. We consciously chose against anything laminated, because it never felt right to wrap something raw and natural in something that isn't.
So what arrives at your door is exactly what it looks like. Textured, imperfectly perfect in the most beautiful way.
Because for us, the experience of a SONEA piece doesn't start when you put it on. It starts the moment it arrives.

Our First Collection
we're opening with four pieces.

you can beautifully combine the pieces and layer them, for example the SORA dress with the YUMI poncho & shawl set or the AYLA skirt with YUMI poncho & shawl set.
this is just the beginning of where SONEA is going.
most of our pieces come in one size, made to move with different bodies rather than fit one specific shape. in general, our pieces fit sizes XXS to L, and thanks to the generous amount of fabric used, especially in the skirt and dress, they fall beautifully on larger bodies too.
the sora dress is the exception when it comes to length. we created it in two lengths, so it can fall and flow the way it was meant to, whether you're petite or tall. If you find yourself somewhere in between, you can easily have the longer version altered by your local tailor to make it just right for you.

every piece stays in its natural state, made from cotton, hemp or beechwood fiber, kept exactly as it naturally is.
for our first collection we wanted to keep things simple and raw at the beginning. when we visited our atelier and production in turkey, we were shown different dyeing techniques, and something in us just didn't feel right about them. not because they were wrong exactly, but because they weren't ours. we didn't feel a real resonance with the process, and that mattered to us more than we expected it to. the more you look behind the scenes of how clothes are actually made, the more you realize that a lot of what happens there doesn't always align with the standards or ethics you were hoping to find. and once you see that, it's hard to unsee it.
so we decided not to dye our pieces until we find a way that feels true to what we're building.
undyed felt honest. it feels like the right place to begin.
for future collections, we’re already dreaming of color. we want each collection to take inspiration from a different part of nature - forests, wildflowers, mountains, rivers, the sea. there are so many colors in nature, from deep browns and greens to burgundy, soft floral tones, blues and everything in between. each collection will have its own little world and its own palette inspired by it.
our pieces are made from fabrics rooted in nature like cotton, hemp and beechwood fiber, undyed and handmade in small batches. because of that, they love a little gentle care in return.
we recommend hand washing in cold water or on a delicate cold wash inside a laundry filet/bag due to the delicate nature of the fabric and letting them air dry.

every SONEA piece is handmade in small batches by women artisans in Turkey, in close collaboration with our co-designer Nisan, who is based there herself.
each piece starts long before it's sewn — with fabric markets, material choices and countless conversations about how something should fall, move and feel. from there, it's made by hand, in small quantities, rather than mass-produced.
because how something is made matters just as much as how it makes you feel.
for us, earth consciousness sits at the center of every decision, the fabrics we choose, the people we work with, the materials we package in, whether we dye or leave things undyed, and under what conditions all of it happens.
building sonea taught us that. along the way, we were offered so many options that simply didn't feel aligned with our values or the vision we have for this brand. and that's part of why it took us as long as it did. we wanted to understand every part of the process, not just the finished result, so we know exactly what we're saying yes to and what we're choosing to bring into the world.
honestly, this has been one of the most challenging parts of building sonea. the fashion industry isn't always transparent, and the deeper you look, the more questions you find. we've had to slow down more than once, rethink materials, ask harder questions and sometimes start over completely.
but we'd rather take the slower path and stand fully behind what we make, than move fast and compromise on what earth conscious actually means to us.
in this day and age, clothing doesn't have to belong to one gender, and honestly, our scarf set is already a piece we'd love to see on anyone.
but yes, creating for men and for kids is something we can absolutely see in SONEA’s future.
we already received some first samples for men's clothing and love them.
SONEA is still so young, and while we have a big vision for where it could go, we also want to leave space for it to evolve naturally. to move with life, with the people around it, and with what feels right along the way.
to us, SONEA is more than clothing. it’s a form of expression, an ongoing creative project, and hopefully, over time, a community. we’re beginning with four pieces for women, but that’s only the beginning. we dream of creating for women, men and children, bringing different worlds together and seeing where SONEA takes us.
